Our Story - Calvary Chapel
Our Story
In July of 1978, Pastor Bob Grenier, and his wife Gayle moved to Visalia, and Calvary Chapel Visalia was started.
We had talked and prayed with Pastor Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, and together with his blessing, Gayle and I moved from Eugene Oregon, where I had been pastoring the Shiloh Fellowship, and Calvary Chapel of Visalia held it's first services, at 1:30 on Sunday afternoons, in a community room of a local store called Gottshalks.
We also began Calvary Chapel Visalia with a couple of home fellowships that met during the week. These were very exciting times and very challenging, and very rewarding. As Calvary Chapel Visalia began to grow, we were able to move our services to the local YMCA, and spent the next 16 1/2 years there.
Calvary Chapel Visalia slowly, but surely began to become established in the community and we grew as a body, not just numerically, but in our love for Jesus Christ, and for one another and for the city of Visalia, and the world we live in.
Calvary Chapel Visalia
Welcome to Calvary Chapel Visalia
Hi, it's Pastor Bob Grenier from Calvary Chapel Visalia. Thank You for stopping by our web site. We pray that Calvary Chapel might be a blessing to you in your walk with the Lord, or in your seeking to find a relationship with God. The Lord has led us here at Calvary Chapel Visalia to a very simple and consistent vision. We are deeply committed to teaching the Bible in a verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book method. The services here at Calvary Chapel Visalia are held on Sunday Mornings, and then on Wed Nights. You can see the service times right on the home page of the web site.
Calvary Chapel of Visalia, offers a Childrens Ministry at all of our Sunday Morning services, and our Wed Evening service as well. We also have a beautiful Cafe that offers meals and an opportunity to sit and fellowshp with others before each of the services
Calvary Chapel Visalia is in fellowship with Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, and the many hundreds of other Calvary Chapels in the U.S., and around the world.
May God richly bless you as you seek him, and, may you grow in the Grace and the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Calvary Story
Calvary Story
The fellowship of believers now known as "Calvary Chapel" began in the late 1960's in one small, non-denominational church. Pastor Chuck Smith, who'd spent 17 years pastoring various churches throughout California and Arizona, became the pastor of a church in Costa Mesa, California which called itself "Calvary Chapel."
Through his many years of pastoring, Pastor Chuck became convinced that a new approach to ministry was needed.
Statement Of Faith
Statement of Faith
We believe that there is one living and true GOD, eternally existing in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory; that this triune God created all, upholds all, and governs all things. (Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 44:8 and 48:16; Matthew 28:19-20; John 10:30; Hebrews 1:3).
We believe that the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, fully inspired without error and the infallible rule of faith and practice. The Word of God is the foundation

THE BENEFITS OF ONLINE GIVING
It keeps first things first.
The Bible indicates giving is to be a "first" and not a last or leftover matter in our lives. Read Proverbs 3:9-10. It is easy to let our intentions be compromised by the pressure of expenses and billing cycles.
It's consistent.
Have you ever forgotten your gift, left it at home or pledged to double it in the future? Have you had times where you have fallen behind because of travel or other schedule interruptions? Online giving provides a way to stay up to date with your budget.
It's convenient.
Through online giving, you expedite your gift, simplify our accounting, and strengthen our base of regular support.

We Don’t Teach
- The teaching of ‘'positive confession'.
- The belief that true Christians can be possessed by demons.
- 'Dominion' or 'Kingdom' theology.
- A fatalistic Calvinistic view which allows no room for free will.
- Prophecy that supersedes Scripture.
- The incorporation of humanistic psychology and philosophy into Biblical teaching.
- 'Charismania' (the over emphasis upon spiritual gifts, experiential signs and wonders, etc.)
We Teach
- The inerrancy of Scripture.
- The present day continuation of the spiritual gifts that Paul wrote of in I Corinthians 12-14.
- Simplicity in church government, rather than a complex bureaucracy.
- A dependence upon the Holy Spirit to lead, rather than ambitious promotion of someone’s agenda.
- The gifts of the Holy Spirit are for the edification of today's believers and Church.
- The pre-millennial, pre-tribulation return of Christ for His waiting church. The verse by verse teaching of the Word of God in such a way that it leads toward spiritual maturity.
Ministry Philosophy
Calvary Chapel of Visalia has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and to be conformed into His image by the power of the Holy Spirit.
We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only their overemphasis of the doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the body of Christ.

Our Story - Calvary Chapel
In the late 1970's, the Lord led pastor Bob Grenier, (at that time, Pastoring a Calvary Chapel Church in Eugene Oregon ) to move to California's heartland and plant a new work. Started in 1978 with two home fellowships, and a Sunday Afternoon service at a local community room, the fellowship began to grow, and soon, moved into the larger facilities of the Visalia YMCA building. While at the YMCA, the church continued to flourish as a result of the Lord's blessings. Around the late 80's the Lord provided us with 12.7 acres, on which we built our church offices.
In 1994 we were able to move from the YMCA, as we completed the first building project, which included a sanctuary and children's classrooms, and nursery. Throughout the 1990's, the fellowship continued to grow as more individuals and families came to the Lord and began attending the church. To accommodate this continuing growth, Calvary Chapel Visalia, recently expanded the original sanctuary, more then doubling it's capacity, and added a number of new classrooms for the children's ministry. We also expanded and remodeled our Nursery, added a Nursing Mother's Room. Additionally, we expanded our Bookstore, and Cafe. We have expanded our parking lots three different times, added a Youth Chapel, and a beautiful Outdoor Pavilion that seats up to 125. Our vision for ministry, is to Exalt the Lord, Equip the Saints, and Evangelize the lost. On a practical level, we like to say, that we "Simply teach the Word Simply" We enjoy the systematic verse by verse expository method of teaching God's Word. We are indebted to the Lord, who through Pastor Chuck Smith from Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa has provided us such a great model and example of God's love and ministry.
